Talking to a client the other day we figured out that the best thing she could do for her cause (promoting research into social justice in education) was to use a blog. We didn’t, however, come to the conclusion that we were after an everyday, every week posting strategy or that we were looking to develop large social networks…. we figured out that a blog would be the best way to promote, distribute, archive and make interactive and available research findings, commentary and resources in the field.

Previously the only area method of sharing and promoting results has been through journals, conferences and occasionally the media. With a blog though it’s simple for news services, individuals, groups and journalists to sign up to an RSS feed to get notified when new material is published.

Naturally, we’re also going to provide an email subscription service too :o)

This researcher had also looked into publishing an electronic journal for the area… something which got thrown into the ‘too hard’ basket about a year back. But with a blog we can set her up all the functions of a journal in less than a few hours and now it’s more than simple for articles to be published, at first by her and in the future by contributing authors.

There’s also the consideration of the impact of progressive publication. Previously this researcher would have published a collection of papers together. Now, however, it’s going to be information, result and opinion as it comes around… much more responsive to changing circumstances, much easier to ‘digest’ and respond to and much more meme-catchy.

Oh and of course the results can be discussed through the comments & pingbacks and will be creative commons licensed.

So, through the blogsavvy treatment, we’re hoping that this important and valuable research can get to more people, get more airtime, get more attention and have more of an impact.
